Both joint venture partners are committed to implementing soil health-improving regenerative principles and practices and to creating a production farm showcase for producing regeneratively grown agricultural products. Understanding Ag’s world-renowned cadre of regenerative agriculture consultants will provide on-going implementation support and educational resources for the farm and its learning center. This long-term collaborative venture will help guarantee Green River Regenerative Farm’s success and
ensure its permanence in, and contributions to the community for generations to come.
> FARM REGENERATION
Green River Regenerative Farm is committed to implementing regenerative ag principles and practices in the farm’s operation. Morgan Hartman, an Understanding Ag regenerative agriculture farm consultant, serves as managing director of the joint venture and is responsible for the farm’s day-to-day operations, including overseeing regenerative agricultural practices implemented on the farm. The first steps in transitioning the farm from conventional to regenerative-organic production will include hiring staff, cleaning up the property and building fences.
> GROW HEALTHIER SOIL, FOOD & ECOSYSTEMS
Although the farm has been vacant for four years, previously established blueberries and an apple orchard continue to produce. This produce will provide the basis for the principal initial enterprises in the operation. Over time, the farming operation will add pastured poultry, cattle grazing, sheep production, and pastured pig and vegetable production, as well as greenhouse-raised perennial tree and shrubbery stock. Taking advantage of existing apple orchards and on-site cidery, the farm will also produce and market cider.
> ESTABLISH & OPERATE A PREMIER LEARNING & RESEARCH CENTER
Green River Regenerative Farm seeks to advance the soil health and regenerative ag movement by growing, and teaching others to grow, healthier food, diverse and resilient ecosystems and healthier communities. To help meet this goal, the farm will become a premier learning center for agricultural professionals, policy makers, and local residents—while also producing pasture-raised, nutrient-dense products for the surrounding communities.
> GROW WITH & LEARN FROM NATURE
By implementing regenerative farming principles and practices that minimize or eliminate conventional agricultural inputs like synthetic fertilizers, tillage, and pesticides, Green River Regenerative will become a world-class regenerative agriculture teaching hub—all
while producing healthy, delicious food and providing employment and value-added food products for the local community.
> PROVIDE RESEARCH TO QUANTIFY EFFICACY OF REGENERATIVE AGRICULTURE
By implementing the Six Principles of Soil Health and the Three Rules of Adaptive Stewardship, biodiversity will increase and key ecosystem functions on the farm will be restored, improving water quality and wildlife and pollinator habitat. The research component of this joint venture will seek to further verify and quantify the efficacy of the applied regenerative agriculture principles and practices.
